Arminia Bielefeld's striker Joel Grodowski has missed out on the Goal of the Month award for May. His spectacular goal against Hertha BSC on the last matchday of the 2. Bundesliga was not enough to win the vote. Grodowski finishes second behind Maxim Schmalz from SSV Reutlingen, who impressed with a long-range shot from the midfield line. The DSC striker had initiated a thrilling second half with his direct shot to make it 1-1 against the Berliners, which ultimately ended with the Ostwestfalen celebrating their stay in the league. Other goals that made it to the shortlist were those of Budu Zivzivadze, Mustapha Bundu, and Jannis Boziaris. Sascha Schneider, chairman of the football department of SSV Reutlingen, is pleased with the nomination of his player. Grodowski can take comfort in the fact that his goal against Berlin played an important role in the team's stay in the league. The DSC striker is not the first Arminia player to score a Goal of the Month - a total of ten Arminia players have achieved this feat so far. So Christoph Hemlein had scored a Goal of the Month in the 2014/15 third division season. But other players like Artur Wichniarek, Guiseppe Reina, and Stefan Kohn had also achieved this success in the past.
