Arminia Bielefeld won the relegation battle against Magdeburg and breathed a sigh of relief in the relegation fight. The 1. FC Magdeburg missed the decisive win in front of their own fans. The 0:2 (0:1) on Sunday in front of 23,759 spectators was already the eighth home defeat for the FCM, which slipped onto the relegation place. The last success in front of their own fans is now already two and a half months old. Bielefeld, which consistently defended and used its chances in contrast to the opponent, breathed further on in the relegation fight after the goals from Maximilian Bauer (32.) and Benjamin Boakye (88.) and celebrated the first away win since August. "Bielefeld has taken the edge off us. They were always a tick more awake. Something like that should not happen to us, especially not against a direct competitor", criticized Magdeburg's defender Tobias Müller after the game. Sander spoke of a deserved win for Bielefeld. "We did not get into our routines and were not agile enough. Bielefeld made it easy for themselves." Magdeburg's coach went into the game with the same starting lineup that had offered a 5:4 spectacle against Fürth last time. But his team got into trouble right away, as Bielefeld high-pressed and almost took the lead after three minutes. Stefano Russo's shot from the second row only touched the crossbar. The action had an effect, as Magdeburg also came better into the game. First, it was striker Mateusz Zukowski, who after eleven minutes only narrowly missed the right post. A little later, Laurin Ulrich's shot was still decisively deflected. Bielefeld, however, did not allow any really decisive actions. Defensively, the guests were compact, and offensively, they waited for errors from the opponent. One such error was made by Magdeburg - again after a corner kick. After Tim Handwerker's entry into the box, the assignment was not correct. Bauer jumped highest and headed in powerfully. Standards had already been the dominant theme in the run-up, as Magdeburg had already conceded three goals against Fürth after stationary balls. Magdeburg, however, only shook off the blow briefly and pressed for the equalizer. The best chance before the break was had by Rayan Ghrieb, who let Bielefeld's Robin Knoche dance out of the sixteenth with a dance, then however shot over the goal. Also Baris Atik's free kick from about 20 meters from the half-left position went over the Bielefeld goal, so it remained until the break at 1:0 for the guests. The team of Mitch Kniat came better out of the dressing room and created second good chances through clever switching actions. Magdeburg did not come to decisive shots, before Atik came to a free kick and zirkelte the ball to the post (56.). A little later, the FCM-Spielmacher caused the next good situation, as he brought a cross to the second post, where Lubambo Musonda however headed the ball over the goal. The pendulum seemed to swing finally in favor of the home team. Magdeburg, however, bit itself in the opponent's half and had now also the chance to equalize. But also this opportunity Magdeburg did not use. Bielefeld, however, used its chances and increased to 2:0 through Benjamin Boakye in the 88th minute. Thus, it ended 2:0 for Bielefeld and the FCM missed the decisive win in front of their own fans.
